Holy, Holy, Holy

It is our BKC tradition for us to come together every Sunday morning as a redeemed community of God’s people for a time of corporate worship, Bible teaching and fellowship.  One of the favourite songs we sing that reflects our worship of our Holy Creator God is number 5 from the “Black Hymnal”:

Holy, Holy, Holy, LORD God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, Holy, Holy, merciful and mighty,
God in Three Persons, blesses Trinity!

Our desire is to acknowledge that we come to worship the Thrice Holy God and hence the repetition of “Holy, Holy Holy”.  He is God the Creator of heaven and earth and the Father of Jesus, the Son of God, who came from heaven’s glory to earth to be the Saviour of the world.  Because of what Jesus did for each of us (personally), we now have this special relationship (personally and corporately) with the Thrice Holy God.  This is a “holy relationship” because it is between a Holy God and His holy people.  It is He who has made us holy,“For you are a people holy to the LORD your God.  The LORD your God has chosen you out of all the peoples on the face of the earth to be His people, His treasured possession” (Deut. 7:6).  Praise the Lord!

In this “holy relationship”, we know from the Bible that God will always remain Holy.  He cannot be otherwise.  The Apostle Peter challenged the persecuted Christians scattered in Asia Minor (Turkey) to: “Just as He (God) who called you is Holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written:  ‘Be holy as I am Holy’” (1 Pet. 1:15, 16).  Peter wanted the Christians to be clear about this “holy relationship” between God and them.  It meant: “As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance” (1 Pet. 1:14).  This is a tough challenge for us to handle today but God has given us His Holy Spirit to guide us in this matter.  We can do it and we must do it for the “holy relationship” to operate in our lives individually and corporately.

Let us renew our pledge to our Thrice Holy God that we want to do our part in this “holy relationship”.  We can join our voices to sing “Scripture in Song” number 94:

Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, LORD God Almighty
We are so blest to be your children, gracious Father
We are so glad that you’ve redeemed us, precious Jesus
Come and fill our hearts anew Holy Spirit.
