God is truth – consistent, faithful and trustworthy. In the Bible, truth is often mentioned with His steadfast love for God is love. King David, the Psalmist, realised that God required from him “truth in the inner parts” (Ps. 51:6) for the person who is accepted by God is the one who “speaks the truth from his heart” (Ps 15:2). His whole life – thoughts, words and deeds – is directed towards God truth. It is a real challenge to be truthful in today’s world where there seems to be many shades of grey instead of clear black and white. But if God is truth and He expects truth – consistent, faithful and trustworthy – from His children, He will give us the ability to stand in truth before a challenging world that doesn’t care much for God. The world will hate us for this but we are standing for God’s truth – consistent, faithful and trustworthy
For the Apostle John, “grace and truth came through Jesus Christ” (Jn. 1:17). Jesus claimed to be “the light of the world” so that we “will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (Jn. 8:12). Jesus is “the truth” (Jn. 14:6) and wants to lead us into God’s truth for this will set us free from the penalty and power of sin. He also gave us the “Spirit of Truth” so that we can discern between what is true and what is false. The “Spirit of Truth” is our Bible Teacher and we can find out the commands of God to follow and live by.
Apostle John’s teaching to the early Church was simple: “let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth” (1 Jn 3:18). We belong to the God of truth and can “set our hearts at rest in His presence whenever our hearts condemn us” (1 Jn 3:19, 20). He reveals truths to us and we simply trust Him and act on them. There is a great need for us today to lead simple truthful and transparent lives for the glory of God. We simply act on His commands found in the Bible. We belong to the God of truth and cannot continue in sin because we have been born of God. His Word is in us and His Word is truth. The God of Truth wants us to remove all falsehood from our daily lives. We can all live for the glory of God in love, grace and truth.
