Jesus and Salvation

Jesus Christ is the pioneer (author) of our salvation. He is also the perfecter (finisher) of our salvation. He is The Alpha and The Omega. What He pioneers He perfects. The Apostle Paul informed the Christians in Philippi of “being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Phil. 1:6). Our God who created us loved us so much that He, in spite of our sin against Him, sent Jesus to provide salvation for us. This salvation is a process that starts from the time we are saved and goes on for eternity – forever and ever and ever …..

We were told of the reality of sin in our lives that caused separation from a Holy God. This sin problem was dealt decisively with when Jesus provided a way out of it by dying on the cross at Calvary in Jerusalem for our sin. He paid the price for our sin so that we can be reconciled with a Holy God. He announced this good news to us by declaring in Jn. 14:6 that “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me” and in Jn. 10:10 that “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” His salvation for us means eternal life (full life) that starts from the point we believe in Him and continues on into eternity. What a wonderful and caring Jesus we serve. For all of us who believe in Him: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Heb. 13:8).

To live this Christian life (full life) He gave us Holy Spirit gifts that enable us to live victorious lives in the Spirit. Different gifts to different Christians so that in the community of Christians in Bethesda (Katong) Church we can mature in Him and build up His Church to share to all this salvation in Jesus. Challenges and problems will arise in our lives and in the life of our Church but these should not make us “ignore so great a salvation”. All we need to do at such difficult times that will come is to be on the alert against the devil and “fixing our eyes on Jesus”. He will see us through the storms – through them and not around or over them! What a great and mighty God we believe in and serve.
