2 Peter 3:9 reminds us of the boundless grace and undeserved mercy of our loving and forgiving Heavenly Father. His desire is “not wanng anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” and be saved! How then can one come to repentance and be saved? The Apostle Paul proclaimed to us in Romans 10:9 that: “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.“
This is wonderful news indeed! “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved” (Rom. 10:13). We all have fallen short of God’s glory because of sin (Rom. 3:23) and all should suffer the consequence of eternal damnation in hell. However, the free gift of eternal life in Jesus from God (Rom. 6:23) has been made available to us through Jesus’ sacrificial death on the Cross for our sins. The wonderful Good News (Gospel) today for all people everywhere is that this free gift is also available and given to everyone – all who believe in Jesus! In the words of an old Christian song:
“Every person, in every Nation, in each succeeding generation
Has the right to hear the news that Christ can save”
Have you ever missed out on a good deal, for example, the sale of the year or a major party celebration, because you were not aware of it? Either no one had told you about it or somebody had forgotten to do so. You get really upset when you found out that you had missed the great opportunity but it was already too late!
This free gift of eternal life from God is more important than the sale of the year or a party celebration. It has eternal significance to every individual. The Apostle Paul reminds us that we too, in the past, had benefitted from someone who made the effort to approach us with the Good News of salvation from the Lord Jesus Christ. In response to Jesus’ love and sacrifice, we too should, in turn, be the beautiful feet of those who bring this Good News of eternal life to others. How wonderful it will be when these others, having heard, might also believe and call on the Name of the Lord Jesus and be saved. The salvation in Jesus of precious people marches on – Hallelujah, praise the Lord!
