Church ministry for all

Khoo's family

What a joy and blessing today to study this topic of “A minister’s motivation and sincerity”. Last Sunday 17 Jan 2016, our Elder Khoo Teng Cheong was presented to us as BKC’s new Chairman of Board of Elders and Chairman of Church Council. There was great rejoicing at this announcement which reflected the God-led way BKC proceeded in this current Church leadership renewal. It is wonderful that this “minister” of BKC was preceded in the past by generations of BKC top “ministers”. BKC first “Chief” Elder was the late Dr Khoo Peng Seng (medical general practitioner), Elder Teng Cheong’s grandfather who was also for many years the Superintendent of our Senior Sunday School. Elder Khoo Teng Cheong’s father, the late Dr Khoo Boo Chai (gynaecologist/plastic surgeon), was for many years the “Chief” Deacon, General Superintendent of Sunday Schools and also the Chairman of the extension building in the 70′s of the Church annex (soon to be torn down). Now, in 2016 we have Elder Khoo Teng Cheong (banker) as our new “Chief” plus his “minister” leadership of our Young Adults and in St Luke’s Hospital Board. This is the first time of BKC’s 3 Khoo generations of Church “ministers” in Christian ministries top leadership. PRAISE THE LORD!

tug of war

These 3 Khoos are Church “ministers” who by their motivation and sincerity have led and continues to lead but can only lead us to fully participate in BKC’s belief and Church practice of the “priesthood of all believers”. Each Christian in BKC has some “minister” function within our community; each is given some grace gift in ministry. Each Christian in BKC is knitted by the Spirit into the corporate unity by the manifestation of grace gifts through Him. We do not have two kinds of Christians in BKC – those who have the Spirit and those who do not, those who minister to others and those who are ministered to. To be a Christian is to be gifted for ministry – you cannot be a Christian in BKC without being a channel of the Spirit’s ministry in BKC. The Apostle Paul taught that Corinthians Church ministry belonged to all Christians and each depended for his Christian life within the Church not just on some special ministry of a few “ministers” but on the diverse ministries of all. So, as we confidently move forward – “looking to Jesus” – in growing BKC in this area of Joo Chiat we are all involved, with our “Chief” Elder Teng Cheong and his team leading us, to be ministers with strong Spirit power motivation and Christlike sincerity.
